No experience but interested in LIUNA Apprenticeship Programs?

LIUNA has multiple apprenticeship programs approved by the California Apprenticeship Council (CAC) and California Division of Apprenticeship Standards (DAS) and recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor. These programs combine on-the-job training with related and supplemental instruction at our state-of-the-art training facilities. LIUNA apprenticeship programs are created to provide laborers, signatory contractors, local unions and partners with quality training and services that promote safety, respect, discipline, dedication, leadership, and continuous improvement. Most importantly, LIUNA apprenticeship programs provide a pathway to a career in the construction industry with good pay and benefits for individuals and their families.

Already have construction experience?

If you already have a minimum of 4,000 hours of experience in demolition, asphalt, concrete, landscaping, pipelaying, traffic control, or heavy highway, it is possible to gain Journeyman status with an assessment by our training coordinator.

Proof of hours may be submitted through one of the following:

  • Check stubs from previous employment
  • W-2 forms with a letter from previous employer on company letterhead including the job description and length of employment

Visit one of our two Local 89 offices and submit copies of check stubs or w2’s reflecting your 4000 hrs experience in construction or submit an official letter from previous construction contractor reflecting your 4000 hrs exp.

If you do not have the 4000 hours of experience or cannot provide proof, you must apply for the apprenticeship program.

Are you a veteran?

Helmets to Hardhats is a program that connects National Guard, Reserve, retired and transitioning active-duty military service members with quality career opportunities in the construction industry. This program allows service members to successfully transition back into civilian life by offering them the tools to secure a quality career in the construction industry. As long as you are able to provide proof of release/discharge from active duty with your “DD Form 214,” all initiation fees are waived to join.
