Contractor Information

Interested in becoming a signatory contractor?

As one of the strongest labor organizations in San Diego County, it is our priority to make sure our signatory contractors expand their businesses and remain successful by creating better job opportunities for their employees/our members. We believe in “win-win.” Our contractors prosper while our members get a fair wage and excellent fringe benefits for their work.

Local 89 is signatory to a Master Labor Agreement (MLA) with numerous multi-employer associations including the Associated General Contractors (AGC), San Diego Chapter, the Southern California Contractors Association (SCCA) and Engineering Contractors Association (ECA) as well as collective bargaining agreements with hundreds of independent contractors who have seen that it is smart to do business with “the Laborers’ Advantage.”

What is the Laborers’ Advantage?

By dominating  the market, the Laborers MLA sets prevailing wage in the Public Sector.

Since our Trust Funds continually rank among the best in the industry, we proudly point to the fact that we cut down the fringe benefits rates on private jobs without taking away any benefits from our members to allow our signatory contractors to compete in the private market.

The San Diego County Laborers Pension Trust Fund ensures that our members can retire in dignity with good benefits. Under current Pension Plan rules an employee who works full time for 25 years in the construction industry may retire with a monthly pension of $5,625.00.

The Laborers Health & Welfare Trust Fund for Southern California affords our members top notch health insurance at a competitive price to our contractors. Our health coverage includes full family medical coverage with  prescription, vision, dental, hearing aids and life insurance.

The biggest asset of our Union is our members. As one of the largest and best apprenticeship programs, graduating 300 apprentices each year, we are producing efficient, skilled and safety conscious journey persons.

Not only do our members give our contractors a competitive edge, so do our large network of contractors. Our general contractors have contractually committed to subcontract work they chose not to self-perform only to other Laborers Union signatory contractors.
